About the role

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join the executive leadership team at a pivotal moment of transformation. As Director of Finance and Commercial, you will play a central role in shaping the future of Companies House, providing strategic financial leadership and commercial insight at the highest level.

You will lead all aspects of financial management, ensuring robust stewardship, value for money, and evidence-based decision-making across the organisation. Your expertise will also be critical in embedding best practice procurement and commercial strategies, supporting major organisational change, and driving continuous improvement in financial operations and systems.

Beyond finance, you will be a key voice in the executive team—advising on economic and commercial matters, influencing strategic direction, and ensuring that investment decisions are grounded in sound financial analysis. Your leadership will help ensure that costs, benefits, and risks are fully understood and managed.

This role also offers a unique platform to build influential relationships across government. You will represent Companies House at senior levels, working collaboratively with stakeholders to deliver shared goals and national priorities.

About you

This is a critically important leadership role within a dynamic organisation at a time of great change, requiring an exceptional financial leader. Your proven experience in managing the finances of complex organisations will provide the Board with confidence in financial resilience and cost control. Your strong track record in driving performance and leading transformational change will establish you as a key strategic partner during this critical period. A natural and inspiring leader, you motivate those around you and consistently deliver reliable day-to-day operations while navigating change effectively. In addition to your financial and commercial responsibilities, you will play a central role on the Companies House Executive Team, engaging across the organisation and building strong, collaborative relationships with peers.

Experience of working within the government sector will be helpful, although this is not essential.
